  • Time tracking and goals sooner. Native time tracking and goals are on Core; in Asana, goals and estimated vs. actual time tracking need Advanced at $24.99.
  • One workspace for more work. Docs and whiteboards sit next to tasks, so some teams can drop a separate wiki or whiteboard tool.
  • Higher user rating. ClickUp is rated 4.6/5 on G2 versus 4.4/5 for Asana.

Where Asana is stronger

  • More on the first paid plan. Starter includes reporting dashboards, timeline and Gantt views, forms and unlimited automations; ClickUp caps Core at 1,000 automation actions a month and puts dashboards and timeline on Business.
  • Portfolios at a published price. Advanced ($24.99) adds unlimited portfolios, goals, resource management and approvals and proofing without a sales call.
  • Easier to adopt. Its narrower feature set means less setup before a team can start working, and guests are free from Starter.

How to decide

  1. List the views and features you need on day one: Gantt, timeline, dashboards, time tracking, goals.
  2. Find the cheapest plan on each side that includes all of them; with ClickUp, dashboards and timeline view mean Business, and with Asana, time tracking and goals mean Advanced.
  3. Estimate your monthly automation runs and check them against ClickUp's per-workspace action limits.
  4. Run one real project in both free plans for two weeks with the people who'll use it daily.
